“Your people will form a circle around me and you’ll bring me showers of blessing!”
Psalm 142:7
I am sure that many of you are receiving regular emails from Hach. He recently sent one out with a video of 300 people singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” across 15 different countries. It warmed my heart to watch this video because as a child I watched the 1956 movie Carousel, starring Shirley Jones, with my mother. She was a singer and was beautiful just like Shirley. There’s a scene in the movie where Shirley’s husband tragically dies, and her cousin sings this song to her to give her courage to remind her that she is not alone in this time of despair. At the end of the movie, Shirley’s daughter is graduating from high school and Shirley’s husband from beyond sings his daughter this song. It is very touching and brings a tear to my eye because the daughter feels emboldened that she will not walk alone.
This scene is “close to the bone” because my daughter is graduating and in this time of pandemic, I am hoping to embolden her and to remind her that she will never walk alone. This song speaks about the power of community, and I recently learned that across the United Kingdom, this is the anthem for all the first responders and medical staff at the frontline. So my dear, Parkview, in these COVID-19 days, may you know that you will never walk alone and that we are here for you.
