“Beloved, let us love one another. For love is of God, and whoever loves is born of God and knows God.”
1 John 4:7
When I was a kid, I watched Mr. Rogers Neighborhood all the time. I learned the golden rule of what it was like to be a good neighbor. It’s funny to think that all these years later that I became colleagues with Mr. Rogers as an adult because we are both Presbyterian ministers. Little did I realize that he was preaching to me in my formative years. And little did he realize that he had people preaching to him during his formative years. He once said,
When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’
During these uncertain times, may we look for the helpers because we will always find them. And if for whatever reason we can’t find them, then let’s become them. It begs the ultimate question: won’t you be my neighbor?
