Hommos is the Arabic word for garbanzo beans. It is one of the mezze (appetizers) found at any Lebanese table, usually eaten with barbecued meat, kibbeh casserole, or stuffed kibbeh balls.
Ingredients:
Dry garbanzo beans (found in bulk at Market Five-One-Five by the church), OR Canned garbanzo beans Lime or lemon Salt Garlic Tahini sauce or sesame paste, found at Market Five-One-Five, Target, or the Chinese market on Broadway
Preparation
You need to use a blender or a food processor for a better texture.
In the Middle East we make food from scratch, so I start with dried garbanzo beans, and I soak them overnight. Otherwise, if you want to use canned beans, skip the next step.
Cook the garbanzo beans until they are soft.
Put the hommos beans in the food processor with some of the water in which they were cooked.
Add 2 Tbsp. of tahini, a clove of garlic, the juice of half a lemon or a lime, and a 1/4 Tsp. salt.
Blend everything together until you get a soft creamy texture and the color lightens up.
Voilà!! Congratulations, you just made your nutritious bowl of hommos in less than five minutes. As we say in Arabic: Sahtein! (Bon appétit).
