Beloved, let us love one another.
1 John 4:7
I often ask myself if Jesus would wear a mask, and my answer is always “absolutely.” When we are out wearing our masks in public, we don’t wear them to protect ourselves, rather to protect others. The science shows that wearing a mask makes a difference. Anything is better than nothing. I echo the words of Governor Cuomo when he said, “When did wearing a mask become political?” Yes, everyone has their constitutional rights, but when another person doesn’t wear their mask while I am in their presence, then their constitutional rights impinge on my rights and vice versa. Are masks uncomfortable? Sure, but it’s a small sacrifice that I can do to protect those around me. Jesus’ core message was about thinking of others and that when we love each other, we essentially are loving God as well. The originally verse below uses the word “cross,” but the message is clear.
Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their [mask] and follow me.”
Matthew 16:24
