“Am I my brother’s keeper?”
Genesis 4:9
August 9th marked the 75th commemoration of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, whether we are always strongly aware of that date and its meaning or not, as we also commemorated the date three days earlier when the city of Hiroshima suffered the first atomic bombing 75 years ago.
The events bring to mind the photographs of Yosuke Yamahata taken in the city of Nagasaki on August 10, 1945,the day after the atomic bombing. In particular this image poses the question: Am I my brother’s keeper? And if not me, who then?
