One of my favorite ways to connect with God is through music. The Christian tradition celebrates music as an important component of our worship. I wanted to share this musical piece written by Hildegard von Bingen, a twelfth century abbess, mystic, and composer. Consider the words: the mystery they embrace, the praise of God, and the joy at God’s creation. I invite you to close your eyes and listen to the song, Laus Trinitati, sung in the original Latin. Hear the space given to each syllable. Listen for the echos as the walls of the church join into the song. Contemplate the hidden and inexpressible nature of God, and allow God to fill you with light and love.
Laus Trinitati (Latin words)
Laus Trinitati, que sonus et vitaac creatrix omnium in vita ipsorum est, et que laus angelice turbeet mirus splendor archanorum, que hominibus ignota sunt, est, et que in omnibus vita est.
Praise to the Trinity (English translation)
Praise to the Trinity—the sound and life and creativity of all within their life, the praise of the angelic host and wondrous, brilliant splendor hid, unknown to human minds, it is, and life within all things.
