Two of our friends have lost their mothers in the last two weeks: Lois and Donna. In my culture we have a saying “Life is motherhood,” indicating how important the motherly bond is and how hard it is to lose a mother. Let us show solidarity with our sisters in Christ at this time, through our acts of love and prayer.
Mother God,
We lift up our sisters who are mourning their mothers. Bring them comfort in the midst of this life-shaking event. Thank You for Your promise to walk with and even carry them as she travels through the darkness of grief. Let them not be overcome with sadness, as those who have no hope, but to be strengthened by an awareness of Your presence.
Give them wisdom to make decisions and to handle any issues that may arise as arrangements are made and events take place.
We pray a sense of calm would take hold, even while emotions run high, and that the peace You give would overflow onto those nearby.
God, You know just what will minister the most to each of them spiritually and emotionally right now. Gently lead them to find the right balance of being alone and being with others. Speak to them through Scripture. Help us show them Your love through our words and actions.
Amen.
