Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
This is one of my favorite verses in the bible, I am actually thinking of tattooing it! seriously…
One of the things that I love about this verse is the invitation to test and discern. We live in times when marketing can make just about anything look good. Sadly, that applies to ideologies too. People have committed crimes, abandoned families, and converted their lives for ideas or beliefs sold to them.
As Christians, we have a charge and an obligation to be aware of our choices. We are summoned to test things and not conform to the popular, and the widely accepted. Paul gives us a good caliber to test things; below are some of the translations of the Greek adjectives he employs.
We ought to look for what is: intrinsically good, fully agreeable, complete in all its parts, good in nature, well-pleasing to God, good whether it be seen to be so or not, what originates from and is empowered by God, mature and having reached its end.
As you go about this week, may the words of Paul go with you.
