January 12, 2021: Love One Another

One of the things I have missed the most since we have been unable to gather together is singing with the choir. Every Wednesday night, I could look forward to singing and enjoying each other’s company with laughter. We loved to celebrate birthdays with dessert and a serenade! Ben taught us unforgettable lessons on rhythm using phrases like “octopus-macaroni-kitty-cat”. Thinking of these memories puts a smile on my face.

As I was reflecting on my time with the choir, I realized something beautiful. As we were rehearsing (and occasionally goofing around) we also were building an incredible community of faith. I have always loved music for the power it has to stick around long after you think it could. Months or even years later, I’ll catch myself humming a tune and ask myself… “what song is this?” only to remember a song I sang at camp or in VBS. I had one of these moments recently, and I realized the song was from choir! The song is called “Love One Another” and it was one of my favorite songs to sing in rehearsal. I don’t believe Parkview’s choir sang this song while I was here, although maybe someone has a recording from before my time.

I was able to find this recording on YouTube from First Presbyterian Church, Encino. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did!

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13: 34-35
