“For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
Genesis 3:19
Today is Ash Wednesday. We are now officially beginning the season of Lent. Lent is the season of 40 days where we remember Jesus wandering in the wilderness for 40 days before he officially began his ministry. It is a time of solemn introspection and remembering that we are dust and to dust we shall return. There will be a zoom service at 6pm and we hope that you will be able to join us. Here is the Meeting ID: 833 2825 2469. In the meantime, Psalm 51:7-15 is traditionally read at this service. As you read this, may you think of all the things that hinder or hold you back with your relationship God, and may you be washed anew with new hope.
Psalm 51:7-15 The Message
Soak me in your laundry and I’ll come out clean,
scrub me and I’ll have a snow-white life.
Tune me in to foot-tapping songs,
set these once-broken bones to dancing.
Don’t look too close for blemishes,
give me a clean bill of health.
God, make a fresh start in me,
shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.
Don’t throw me out with the trash,
or fail to breathe holiness in me.
Bring me back from gray exile,
put a fresh wind in my sails!
Give me a job teaching rebels your ways
so the lost can find their way home.
Commute my death sentence, God, my salvation God,
and I’ll sing anthems to your life-giving ways.
Unbutton my lips, dear God;
I’ll let loose with your praise.
