“You will shine like the stars!”
Philippians 2:15
February is Black History Month and this is the time when we can remember our Black siblings for the many contributions they have brought to our communities and world. One in particular is Mae Jemison. She was the first Black female astronaut to go into space. Out of 2000 applicants, Mae was one of 15 exemplary people chosen to be a part of the space program in 1987. For all of the discrimination that Mae would have had to endure over the years and the pushback that she would have received over time due to the color of her skin, here she was still able to rise to the top…so much so that she was able to reach the stars. As she once said, “Never limit yourself because of others’ limited imagination; never limit others because of your own limited imagination.” May we, too, be inspired by Mae and reach for our stars and let no bounds limit us. Here’s a video to learn more about her incredible accomplishments.
