Aloha Sundays Are Here!

“What are Aloha Sundays?” you may ask. Every August we wear comfortable island clothing and leis. This tradition dates back to when we had no air conditioning and tried to combat the August heat in Sacramento. Our Sundays are cool now inside the church, but we still like to wear our muumuus, Aloha shirts, and other comfortable clothing. Reusable leis are distributed upon entry to the church.
Aloha” is usually defined as love, affection, peace, compassion, and mercy and is commonly used as a greeting. But “Aloha” means so much more. “[I]t comprises complex ways of being and of interacting with and loving all of creation. An ethic of care and respect for all people and all elements of the land is wrapped up in aloha; it is a way of showing connection and reverence.” Let’s show our Aloha spirit this August!
