You may be wondering what we can do to speak out and advocate as a Matthew 25 church, to act boldly and compassionately to see our neighbors through Jesus’ eyes and serve those who are marginalized or in need — people who are hungry, thirsty, naked, sick, imprisoned, strangers, poor or oppressed in other ways and in need of welcoming. One small action we can undertake happens on February 28. Please join the Economic Blackout for 24 hours on February 28, 2025 (midnight to midnight). The People’s Union is calling for everyone to band together for twenty-four hours to show our economic power in face of efforts to disband programs that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. It’s easy: do not shop in person or online, buy gas, or make other discretionary spending. If you must buy, buy locally from independent businesses. Ask your friends and family to participate. If enough people band together, we can exercise our might for a better world.
