July 9, 2020: Excuse Me But Where Are You?

There was a time in my life when it became hard to believe because of the image of God I was taught to believe in. They was a distant and unquestionable God. With years of studies and journeying in faith, I came to believe in a God Who is closer, Who cares about my life and Who listens even when I’ve had nothing else to say but “where are You God?!”

Today this is where the people in my country find themselves. Jobs are lost, corruption is at its worst, inflation at its highest, even hope in a better future has become impossible for many. Where is God?!

The Psalmist in Psalm 10: 1 questioned God’s presence: “Why, Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?”

I know the entire world is suffering, but my people have been living in such conditions for so long. Is God hiding Themself? And until when?

I quote Ellen from the movie “The Laundromat.” Weighted under the truth of life’s injustice, she enters into a church and here’s what she prays:

“I hate to ask but when exactly are the meek going to inherit the earth?

And that part about the first becoming last and the last becoming first, when does that start? And what about the rest of us in the middle?

I know you want me to say: forgive them Father for they don’t know what they do. But they know goddamn well what they’re doing. They just don’t care.”

If I am honest, this is my prayer today.
Until when God? Amen.
