Poem: Miraculous, by Delores Williams from I Am Affirmations
You are a miracle. You are not an accident. You are not a burden. You are a somebody. You are the answer someone is looking for. You are a miracle direct from the hand of the universe.
In my work with my spiritual director, I have been exploring God’s compassion. It is easy for me to believe in God’s compassion for other people, but sometimes I deny the truth that God is gracious towards me as well. I get trapped in feelings of guilt, or I marvel at the possibility that the God of the universe could really care about me. After all, I’m just one person in a sea of many.
Delores Williams’ words are a treasure. When we borrow the eyes of God, we can see the miraculous in everything, “direct from the hand of the universe”.
Psalm 8 is one of my favorite psalms. Verses 3 and 4 read: “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them; mortals, that you care for them?”
But the good news of our faith is that God really does care for us and considers each of us a miracle of Her own Creation, worthy of life and reconciliation with all things.
