Join Parkview at the Pride Parade!

Join the Parkview Family as we proudly march in the Sacramento Pride Parade on Sunday, June 11, 2023. Please invite your family and friends to walk (or be pushed in their wheelchair or stroller!) with Parkview to show love and support for LGBTQ persons. We would like a good-sized contingent to demonstrate that there are many people who believe that God doesn’t care about gender identities, just about loving hearts and helping hands, and that love is love is love is love.

We will meet in front of the church directly after worship service. Our official spot in line is #112, so look for us there, if you get lost. The march begins on 8th Street, alongside Southside Park, at 11 am, so dancers and marchers will need to hustle down 8th Street immediately after service to find Steve Lee, who will be holding Parkview’s spot. The parade route turns right onto T Street, then left onto 10th Street, and will end at the Capitol Mall.

Some of us plan on breaking out into the ondo “One Plus One” and have been practicing. If you’d like to join in and want to practice, watch the first video below. You can also learn on the spot! To see the dance in action, watch the second video. Have fun with your outfit. Be comfortable for the weather and consider wearing a hat and sunscreen. See you there!

Click here to read the official information packet.
Please note: streets near the church will be closed for the parade. Think of alternative transportation. SacRT is offering free rides on Sat, June 10 and Sun, June 11, 9 am – 10 pm. Click here to access the flyer, which you can present to the bus driver. Only one flyer is needed per group.

“One Plus One” (Ichi Tasu Ichi) in Action

Want to Learn the Lyrics?

Ichi oku datte, hyakuman datte
Chi-issana ichi no tsumikasa ne
Ichi tasu ichi no ondo de yuko
Ooki na yuu me ni chosen shi-yo!

Whether 100 million or one million,
They are a result of piling up small ones
Let’s dance the 1 + 1 Dance,
Try the big dream.

Ichi tasu ni wa Taiyo da
San tasu kyuu wa Arigato

One plus two Means sun
Three plus nine is “Thank you”

Samishii toki wa,
Meso, meso shi-yo
Oko-otta toki wa, fukure cha-e
Ureshi-i toki wa niyaniya shiyo
Tanoshi-i toki wa kuchibu-e fuko.

When you get mad,
you get puffed up (pout).
When you feel glad, you giggle,
When you are happy, you whistle.

Kimi tasu boku -Ai rabu yu!
Mama tasu papa wa — Shiranai.

You plus me: I love you
Mom plus dad: I don’t know

Senrono ue wo densha ga hashiri
Yagura no ue ni tsuki gateru
Onnaka no ue ni oheso ga hatte
Atama no ue ni boshi ga aru yo

On rails is where the train goes,
Over a yagura (Bon dance scaffold) the moon shines
On the belly there’s a navel,
On the head goes the hat.

Yon tasu yon — ha ha ha no ha!
Go tasu go de—Sutten ten!

Four plus four : eight,
Five plus five: Sutten ten “go broke

Tatakeba hibiki, taiko no yo ni
Rikutsu ja nashini wakaru no sa
Ichi tasu ichi o ondo de yuko
O okina yuu me ni chosen shi-yo!

As the drum sounds, we feel the rhythm,
You understand without rhyme or reason.
Let’s dance the 1 + 1 Dance,
Try the big dream.

Translation by Craig Kurumada. The song is filled with English/Japanese puns.
